Dataset · Global Footprint Network
65 years, 1961–2025 · 126 countries
The Ecological Footprint measures how much biologically productive land and sea a country’s consumption demands, per person, in global hectares. A higher figure means a heavier draw on nature — not a richer country, though in practice the two track closely.
This site holds every year from 1961 to 2025, read from Global Footprint Network’s own data and stored exactly as published.

Never. Tables on screen may show fewer decimals; the files never do.
Changed by this site
Reshaped into one row per country: regional and income-group totals are left out, only the columns listed are kept, each row gets its ISO 3166 code, and some country names are brought to one spelling. No value is recalculated, rescaled or rounded.
From the Global Footprint Network’s own data platform. Four dissolved states in the source are not imported because every row here keys to a present-day country, which is why Ethiopia’s series starts in 1993 and Sudan’s in 2012.
