Every country

In order, highest value first. No rank or position is shown: too many countries share the same value for an order to mean anything. Neither end is better. This measures one company's product, not AI use in general: countries where the product is not offered do not appear, and a low value can reflect the company's position in a market as much as how much people there use AI. A country appears only when its conversations clear Anthropic's privacy threshold, so a missing country is unpublished, not zero. Microsoft's AI user share, on the same subject, counts the use of any company's AI tools.

About claude usage relative to population

How much a country uses one company's AI assistant, Anthropic's Claude, relative to its size: its share of Claude conversations divided by its share of the world's people aged 15 to 64. A value of 1 means use in proportion to population; 2 means twice that. Anthropic publishes it in its Economic Index.

What the number is: Claude usage index (1 = in proportion to working-age population).

09Questions

Claude usage relative to population: questions and answers

Which country has the highest claude usage relative to population?

Australia, at 6.40, among the 121 countries compared in 2026.

Which country has the lowest claude usage relative to population?

Tanzania, at 0.07, among the 121 countries compared in 2026.

How many countries does the Anthropic AI Usage Index cover?

121 in 2026.

What is the world average claude usage relative to population?

This site does not calculate a world average, which would depend on how countries are weighted. In the middle country of the 121 compared in 2026, the figure was 0.96.

Is this Anthropic’s own ranking?

No ranking is shown. Anthropic publishes values only, and too many countries share the same value for an ordering to mean anything, so none is derived.

How often is the Anthropic AI Usage Index published?

This site holds one edition, describing 2026.

Where does the data come from, and can I download it?

From Anthropic, under CC BY (version not stated). From the Anthropic Economic Index dataset Anthropic publishes on Hugging Face, filtered to the country-level index. Values are stored as published; Anthropic rounds them to two decimals. Every edition is on this site’s Datasets pages as a full table, and downloads as a CSV file with every value unrounded.

How this page reads the numbers

  • No rank or position is shown: Anthropic publishes values only, and too many countries share the same value for an ordering to mean anything.
  • This statistic has no better end, so the page describes higher and lower values and never calls a country a leader.
  • A country is named at an end only when it holds that value alone. Where several share it, the page says how many and names none first.
  • Values are stored exactly as published and trimmed only for display. “The middle country” is the median of the countries measured, not a world average.

The file itself, column by column — where it came from, what each column holds, and every edition as a CSV — is on its dataset page.
