Every country
In order, highest value first. No rank or position is shown: too many countries share the same value for an order to mean anything. Neither end is better. A later age at first marriage follows longer schooling, paid work and changing custom; an early one goes with child marriage, which this site measures directly on its own page. The estimate assumes nobody marries before 15 or for the first time after 50, and sources differ on whether living together counts as marriage, so small gaps between countries mean little.

About age at first marriage (women)
This is the average age at which women first marry, estimated from the share of women still never married at each age in a census or survey — the singulate mean age at marriage, the standard way to compare when people marry across countries. Men's figure from the same source is shown beside it where one exists.
What the number is: Singulate mean age at marriage, women (years).

From UN DESA Population Division, under CC BY 3.0 IGO. From the UN Population Division's World Marriage Data 2019, the newest edition. Where one country's newest year holds two readings — often one survey tabulated two ways — the row follows a rule this site states rather than a choice the Division made: latest period, then census before survey before estimate, then the Division's own calculation from the survey. Every edition is on this site’s Datasets pages as a full table, and downloads as a CSV file with every value unrounded.

How this page reads the numbers
- No rank or position is shown: UN DESA Population Division publishes values only, and too many countries share the same value for an ordering to mean anything.
- This statistic has no better end, so the page describes higher and lower values and never calls a country a leader.
- A country is named at an end only when it holds that value alone. Where several share it, the page says how many and names none first.
- The file gives each country’s most recent reading, so the rows are from different years. Readings from before 2009 are listed but left out of every comparison on this page.
- Values are stored exactly as published and trimmed only for display. “The middle country” is the median of the countries measured, not a world average.
The file itself, column by column — where it came from, what each column holds, and every edition as a CSV — is on its dataset page.
